Make and Take Dry Box Workshop
Malama Learning Center and the Cultural Learning Center at Ka’ala is offering this workshop on Saturday July 18th, 8am-12pm at Kapolei High School. Cost: $7 (or you may bring food to dry as payment)
Learn about traditional ways of drying and storing food and make your own dry box to take home! This way of preserving food without electricity is a sustainable and easy living practice.
The Cultural Learning Center at Ka'ala will share knowledge about the history of food preservation, salt gathering, and even how to make inamona. Keiki (ages 5 and up) and kupuna are welcome to participate in hands on activities cleaning, salting, and drying fish and other food products. The dry box you will be making can go home with you to be used to preserve food for your whole family.
Registration is limited. Priority will be given to people who REGISTER AND ATTEND AS A FAMILY UNIT. Please bring another family member (ex: child, parent, grandparent, niece/nephew, aunty/uncle) in order to promote sharing of knowledge across generations.
